WEATHER CONDITIONS

Season phenology: late

Weather conditions:

On the islands and Murman coast spring was very late and cold, intensive snowfalls were noted even in early June. On the islands near western part of the Kola Peninsula snow melted in middle June (while average date is 27 May), in lowlands it retained till the end of June. At the eastern Murman coast snow in lowlands retained till the end of August. Summer also was cold, rains were not recorded in its second half.

Season temperature: cold
Season humidity:
Date of 50% snow-cover:
Date of ice-break on rivers:
Date of final loss of snow: middle June

BIOTIC CONDITIONS

Rodents abundance evaluation:

low

Breeding conditions:

At the Ainovy Islands wader nesting was successful, in spite of the later than usual breeding dates. Fall migration was also substantially delayed. Dunlins, Purple Sandpipers, Turnstones migrated in usual numbers; other species (Ruff, Spotted Redshank, Bar-tailed Godwit, Red-necked Phalarope, Little Stint) were apparently less numerous than on average.

Rodent dynamics:

Lemmings were not recorded in coastal mainland tundra.
