WEATHER CONDITIONS

Season phenology: early

Weather conditions:

Spring was at least 2 weeks earlier than usial. On arrival only c. 1% snow cover on low tundra. Ice-break 19.05 - Pechora R. at NarYanMar. Generally cool, windy and rather wet. two unusually heavy thunderstorms on 10.07.95 associated with westrly winds (including some hail). Heavy falls of rain also on 19+20.06, 28.06, 1.07. No periods of very strong winds (above force 6).

BIOTIC CONDITIONS

Breeding conditions:

After strong rains in the end of nesting period, many Temminck's Stints lost their clutches. Arctic foxes increased compared to 1994, and were often seen destroying nests.
 

Rodent dynamics:

Lemmings nearly absent.
