Breeding conditions:
|
| These islands have the appearance of sandy arctic desert. Nomad skuas and gulls were common but were restricted to those areas with broken ice. Arctic Foxes were not recorded although they are common visitors here in some years. Glaucous Gulls Larus hyperboreus and Brent Geese Branta bernicla were common breeders, probably as well as Purple Sandpipers Calidris maritima.
