Summer was very warm and dry. Therefore tundra areas in August were extremely dry and a good crop of berries ripened.

Breeding conditions:

The number of rodents was low and birds of prey were not recorded at all. Snowy Owls were present, although did not breed. Numbers of Dunlin, Rock Sandpiper Calidris ptilocnemis and Pacific Golden Plover were nearly at average levels, while in other species they were much lower than usual.
