Breeding conditions:
|
| Arctic Foxes, Snowy Owls, Rough-legged Buzzards and Short-eared Owls bred everywhere. We worked on rivers and in slope tundras, so nothing can be said about breeding of Pomarine Skuas. Breeding success was very high in geese and average in swans. Divers, in particular Yellow-billed, were seen with broods in high numbers. Density of White-fronted Geese on rivers was 0.29 brood/km and 3 bird/km. Mean brood size was 4.85ñ0.29 chick (range 1-8, n=26). Density of Bean Geese on rivers was 0.74 brood/km and 8.7 bird/km. Portion of birds participating in reproduction was 61.8% and 30% in White-fronted and Bean geese, respectively, while portion of juveniles 61.8% and 39.8% in these two species. |
