Breeding conditions:

We saw Ground Squirrels, hares, reindeers and wolves. Among birds duck broods were present on small lakes and geese flock landed on the lake on 28 July.
 

Rodent dynamics:

Numbers of lemmings, Tundra and Ruddy voles were very low, contrasting with abundant last year droppings and patches of destroyed grass. The only locality on the Seward Peninsula with relatively high numbers of shrews was river valley in Serpentine Hot Springs (65ø51'N, 164ø42'W).
