WEATHER CONDITIONS

Season phenology: early

Weather conditions:

Weather in June was unstable, and cold periods (+3-+6øC) were often alternating with warm and sunny (+16-+18øC). July was very dry, but generally chilly, with a single week of hot weather (to +29-+30øC). First half of August was dry with average temperatures. Strong storm with pelting rain and rapid cooling on 29-30 July had the most adverse impact on bird reproduction.

Season temperature:
Season humidity: dry
Date of 50% snow-cover:
Date of ice-break on rivers:
Date of final loss of snow: 14.06

BIOTIC CONDITIONS

Rodents abundance evaluation:

average

Breeding conditions:

A single den of Arctic Foxes having signs of recent digging was seen, while foxes themselves were never observed. Predators' pressure on breeding birds was low, and successful reproduction was observed in some species of waders and waterfowl. While weather was favourable during most of the summer, the storm in late July resulted in decrease of reproductiove success, including death of Peregrine Falcon and Merlin broods in nests.

Rodent dynamics:

Collared Lemming was seen once on excursion and was found in Rough-legged Buzzard pellets. Ruddy Vole was only found in pellets, while Narrow-skulled Vole was periodically seen on excursions.

Rodent species recorded:

LatinAbundance
Dicrostonyx torquatusrare
Clethrionomys rutilusrare
Microtus gregaliscommon

Summary of fauna studies:

Studies of habitat relations of birds of prey included collecting data on their numbers in the area.
