WEATHER CONDITIONS

Season phenology: early

Weather conditions:

Spring was early, and summer, July in particular, very warm, and dry, which resulted in forest fires in the mountain foothills. Extremal weather events were not recorded in the period of studies. Weather turned to the worth in mid July when rains started, but temperature decline was not significant. Autumn was warm and prolonged.

Season temperature: warm
Season humidity: dry
Date of 50% snow-cover:
Date of ice-break on rivers:
Date of final loss of snow:

BIOTIC CONDITIONS

Rodents abundance evaluation:

low

Breeding conditions:

Breeding conditions were favourable for most bird species due to good weather and low numbers of predators. Successful reproduction of passerines, waders, Willow Grouse and Rock Ptarmigan, Arctic Tern, ducks and Black-throated Diver was confirmed by records of broods. Among waders the highest numbers were shown in the area by Golden and Ringed plovers, and Wood Sandpiper, but such species as Greenshank, Common Sandpiper, Ruff, Temminck's Stint and Dotterel had low numbers due to unsuitable habitats. Among passerines Meadow Pipit, Bluethroat and Redpol had the highest numbers. Willow Grouse population was increasing.

Rodent dynamics:

Voles were not recorded visually, however, Grey-sided, Ruddy and Middendorff's voles all showed numbers of 0.25 specimen per 100 trap-nights.

Rodent species recorded:

LatinAbundance
Clethrionomys rufocannuscommon
Clethrionomys rutiluscommon
Microtus middendorfficommon

Summary of fauna studies:

Absolute counts of all bird species were carried out at an area of 38 sq km along with mapping in alpine and subalpine habitats of Bolshoi Ural. Transect counts and faunistic observations were performed in the intermountain basin of Bolshoi Ural and Malyi Ural. Data on reproduction were collected for some species.
